This year, CICAE welcomed 55 participants and 30 trainers from 26 countries, mostly from Europe. This training, unique in the world, addresses itself to art cinema professionals, especially to exhibitors but also to distributors and festival programmers and to all professionals who want to deepen their knowledge in this sector.
The training included lectures, practical workshops, case studies and roundtables and was conducted in two sessions: Juniors and Executives.
One part of the program was accomplished together for the two sessions and contained subject matters such as public policies in favour of art cinema exhibition, chain of rights - encounters with producers, sales agents – valorisation of heritage films, as well as an afternoon dedicated to the question of digitization of movie theatres.
The case studies from Romania (Transilvania IFF), Bulgaria (Sofia IFF and Operation Kino), Iceland (Reykjavik IFF) and France (Cinélatino Toulouse) intended to demonstrate alternative methods that bring films and particular cinematographic works to the audience and can even contribute to the creation of a film industry in countries where there is none.
The “Junior” session also comprised : communication and marketing, an afternoon dedicated to the work with young audiences (five countries presented their actions: Nowe Horyzonty Edukacie Filmowe (PL), Lichtburg Filmpalast (DE), Lanterne Magique (CH), Cinéma Jean Eustache (FR), Barz & Hippo (IT)), as well as audience development, fundraising and the management of a project.
The “Executive” group studied amongst others: strategies and creativity, distribution contracts for cinemas, TV and VoD etc. One afternoon was dedicated to a roundtable with distributors to discuss the current challenges of the profession.
